Hoddam Castle

Location:

Take the B723 road going north from Annan.
The castle is on the left after six miles.

Map ref: 85 156 730.

A 16th century tower built by Sir John Maxwell. It was an important stronghold in its time and was heavily involved in the bitter feud between the Maxwells and the Johnstones which continued for generation after generation.

The original tower has been added to and has been much altered.

A Maxwell stronghold.

There is no public access to the interior.
