The later of two castles in Lochmaben.
This fourteenth century castle is believed to be the birthplace of Robert the Bruce.
After the Union of the Crowns, Lockmaben Castle was of vital importance and served as a royal castle for many years.

It later passed to Lord Maxwell.

Access is available at all times. Car parking is available and nearby there is a nature reserve.

On a fine day this could be a pleasant stop for a picnic. Both the ruins and the nearby nature reserve could be of especial interest to children.
