The Cresswells are an old Northumbrian family located in the east of the country. The village of Cresswell is situated at the southern end of Druridge Bay map ref: ref: 81 2993. 

Records indicate that the Cresswells have lived here since the reign of King John. A. J. Cresswell added the name Baker when he inherited the property of his wife's cousin, John Baker. A. J. Cresswell built the present manor house and he was lord of the manor of Cresswell.

The Cresswells also have holdings in North Yorkshire.
