This is the most comprehensive list available of families and clans associated with both sides of the Border during reiving times, but it does not claim to be complete.

Names will be added only when there is documentary evidence that a family was established in the Borders during the 16th century being the time when reiving was most intense. Please do not ask for your family name to the added unless you can conform to this criteria.

Further information about individual families will be welcome, and will always be considered for entry on these pages.  It is very important, however, that sources are provided to avoid any potential copyright problems.

Many other surnames dabbled in reiving to varying degrees. When they weren't reiving they were probably feuding.
