A very active family often heavily involved in the ongoing dispute between their powerful neighbours, the Johnstones and the Maxwells. Irvines were, at times, in deadly feud with the Musgraves, the Bells and the Grahams. The Borderer Irvings were spelt in the main with “g” and the Highlander Irvines are spelt with an “e”. This is generally agreed with David Irvine of Drum (Baron of Drum and Chief of the Name) and me, of Bonshaw and that Ilk. If you are interested in the Irvings of Bonshaw you are invited to contact Mr Rupert Irving by e-mail at: rupertirving@pattersonirving.com who has much information on that section of the family. |
