The Etherington Family

 

 

A Middle March family.
The surname Errington is derived from the Erring Burn, which ran through their lands, located near Hexham and Corbridge.
From the 13 Century to 17Century they occupied Cocklaw Tower (near Corbridge), moving on to Beaufront Castle (near Hexham) as the family become more powerful and affluent.
This information can be confirmed by reference to the History of Northumberland vol 4 part 2.
The family were a powerful Catholic retrusant family.
