The surname Errington is derived from the Erring Burn, which ran through their
lands, located near Hexham and Corbridge.
From the 13 Century to 17Century they occupied Cocklaw Tower (near Corbridge),
moving on to Beaufront Castle (near Hexham) as the family become more powerful
and affluent.

The family were a powerful Catholic retrusant family.
